Biomimicry
Biomimicry is an innovation methodology that looks to biological systems β organisms, ecosystems, and evolutionary processes β as models for solving human design challenges. Coined by Janine Benyus in 1997, the approach is grounded in the observation that 3.8 billion years of evolution have produced extraordinarily efficient, resilient, and elegant solutions to problems that engineers and designers also face. From Velcro to bullet trains to self-healing materials, some of the most significant engineering innovations of the modern era came from studying nature.
