A desktop workspace for reading, thinking and writing, with AI built in

It reads the whole document, and every answer quotes the page it came from — one click opens the source with that sentence highlighted.

  • Open a folder you already have — PDFs, EPUBs, Word files and notes, nothing imported or copied
  • Nothing to learn first: say what you want — “translate this PDF”, “write a report from these papers”
  • Even without AI, it’s an editor you’ll enjoy writing in, whether it’s quick notes or full documents — and your files stay plain Markdown

Free app · pay only for the AI you use, or bring your own key

This is all you need to start. The rest can wait until you need it.

01

Open a folder you already have
Papers, notes, an Obsidian vault. Nothing is imported, copied or converted.

02

Ask it the way you’d ask a person
No commands to learn, no indexing to wait for.

03

Click a quote in the answer
It opens the source and highlights the sentence. That is when you know whether to trust it.

Your folder

Put AI to work in a folder you already have.

Nothing to move, nothing to set up. Point it at any folder on your disk — this year's project, a decade of papers, an Obsidian vault — and those files become something you can ask, argue with and add to.

Read

Finish the four-hundred-page book, with notes down the margin and a write-up at the end.

PDFs, books and slides open as themselves, and the AI works on the page you are reading.

  1. Have it read along

Tell it why you are reading — to get your bearings, to review it, to find the weak spots, or to learn it — and it works through every chapter, leaving notes in the margin and, at the end, a summary of what is worth taking away, the strongest open question and what to pursue next.

  2. Ask a region, or the whole thing

Box a chart, a table or an equation and ask about just that. Or ask about all of it — a short paper goes to the model whole; a long book is navigated chapter by chapter.

  3. Every quote is checkable

Every conclusion carries verbatim quotes, and one click takes you back to the page it came from. You do not have to trust it — you can check it.

From your folderAsk across the whole folder at once — notes, papers and books together, not one upload at a time.

Think

A mind map you don't have to fill in yourself.

Angles side by side, five levels down and the way back still in view — a map was always the right shape for thinking. But a blank one only holds what you already thought of.

Now the agent grows it for you.Branches you hadn't thought of, laid out first. Dig into the ones worth it.

How it works

Pick a thinking model instead of typing a branch. The branch comes back with that method carried out on your own documents.

Write

From scattered notes to a report, a thesis or a book that argues one thing.

You bring the half-formed ideas, the reading pile and the branch you liked on the canvas. It comes back with an outline — and once you have approved that, it writes the whole thing, section by section, or part by part for a book.

Scattered notesideas · reading pile · a branch
Outline you approvethe gate is the point
Report, thesis or bookone thing, argued through
  1. Nothing is drafted before you approve the outline

Send it back with comments on particular sections. An outline you already arranged on the canvas can go straight in.

  2. In a long draft, chapter nine still remembers chapter two

It keeps a record of what the draft has already argued, so later chapters never contradict earlier ones.

  3. It revises from your comments

Leave comments on the draft and it revises from them — every edit marked against what you had, for you to accept or reject.

From your folderThe finished piece is saved back into the folder as a file — material for the next thing you ask.

Revise

Hand it the draft you wrote. Review its edits like a colleague’s.

The report you finished last night, the chapter going to your supervisor, the email that runs too long. Say what you want, or leave comments in the margin — every change comes back marked on your own text, and nothing is saved until you accept it.

Three ways to ask

  • 01Select a passage, say what to change

Tighten it, make it clearer, change the tone. The suggestion appears in place, as one change to accept or reject.

  • 02Ask for a pass over the whole document

“Make it more concise and keep my voice.” Edits come back across every section, in groups you take one at a time.

  • 03Leave comments, then revise from all of them

Comment the way you would for a colleague. Each group of edits says which comment it answers.

Your draft

  • .md
  • .docx
  • .pdf

Accepted edits land in the same file — in a .docx, as Word tracked changes.

Markdown notes are edited in place, whoever wrote them; a PDF gets an editable .md copy beside it.

Someone else’s draft

  1. AI drafts comments
  2. You keep the good ones
  3. Word comments in a copy of their file

They get their file back with your notes on the exact passages; the original stays untouched.

AI document review →
  • Marked on your own text

Not a new copy to reread. Deletions struck through, additions highlighted; anything unmarked is exactly what you wrote.

  • Grouped, with a reason

Longer revisions arrive in groups, each saying why. Accept or reject a group at a time; a suggestion at the cursor is one decision.

  • Nothing lands until you say so

The file is untouched until you accept. What you accept goes into the document’s history, so you can still step back.

The same review covers every AI edit in the app — including drafts it wrote for you.

The editor

The notes app you were going to install anyway.

Your .md files stay plain text, linked the way you already link them — and the AI turns up where your cursor is, not in a sidebar you have to copy things out of.

Written the way you would write it anyway

  • [[Links]] with backlinks, an outline and daily notes — on files that stay plain text.
  • Press / for headings, tables, callouts, code, math or a diagram; drag any block by its handle.
  • Open the same folder in any other Markdown editor and it reads the same.

AI at the cursor, without leaving the page

  • Select any text and tell MindMax what to do with it — tighten it, expand it, change the tone, translate it, turn it into a list or a table, or clean up a messy paste.
  • Ask it to keep drafting the next section, or to sketch an outline from where you left off.
  • Request a flowchart, quadrant chart or infographic, and it's drawn right inside the note — as editable Mermaid or SVG.

No copying into a chat window and back.

Opens on the notes folder you already have — nothing to import, nothing converted.
