Brainwriting is a silent, written alternative to traditional brainstorming that eliminates the social dynamics — dominance by vocal participants, groupthink, production blocking — that consistently reduce traditional brainstorming's effectiveness. Participants simultaneously write ideas on paper or in a shared document, then pass their sheet to the next person who builds on those ideas. The result is a dramatically higher volume of diverse ideas from a broader range of participants, especially in groups with power differentials or introverted members.
