AI paper reader
Ask the paper. Every answer points back to the page.
Upload a research paper and ask it what you actually need to know. MindMax reads the whole paper before it answers, quotes the sentence each claim rests on, and takes you to that page with one click.

How it works
Upload the paper
Open MindMax Read and upload the PDF. The text is extracted in your browser, and the file stays in this browser.
Read the opening card
Before you ask anything, MindMax lays out what the paper claims, where to start reading, and a few questions worth asking.
Ask what you need to know
Sign in with a free account and ask in your own words — the method, a result, how two sections connect.
Check every quote
Each answer quotes the passage it rests on. Hover a quote to see it in context; click it to jump to that page in the paper.
Keep what you found
Copy an answer, save it as a note in the online editor, or export the whole conversation as Markdown.
Built for checking, not just answering
A summary you cannot verify is not much use when you have to cite the paper. Everything here is about getting you back to the text.
Reads the whole paper
It looks at the structure first — sections, what each one covers — decides which parts to read, then answers from the text itself. Questions that span sections get the whole answer.
Quotes checked word for word
Every quotation in an answer is matched against the paper. If one cannot be found in the text, the answer says so underneath — you are never left to find out yourself.
Back to the page
PDF citations carry the page number. Hover to read the passage in context, click to jump there in the original layout.
You can see what it read
Each answer shows which sections it opened, so you know where it looked — and where it did not.
Follow-ups that go deeper
After each answer, a few follow-up questions pick up where it left off: the assumption behind a result, the limitation the authors admit.
Take your answers with you
Save an answer as a note in the MindMax online editor, or export the whole conversation as Markdown with its quotes.
In your browser, or across a whole folder
The browser reader is one paper at a time, on purpose. The desktop app reads the same way across everything you are working with.
- One paper, report or book at a time
- Ask questions; every answer quotes the page
- Save answers as notes, or export Markdown
- Nothing to install
- Ask across a whole folder of papers and notes at once
- AI notes down the margin, chapter by chapter
- Highlights and notes saved as Markdown in your folder
- Scanned PDFs made readable, papers translated in full
Where it gets hard
- Asking needs a free account
Uploading and reading need no account. Asking questions needs a free account, and answers use the AI allowance in your plan.
- Text PDFs, not scans
A scanned PDF has no text to read in the browser. The desktop app can recognise the text first.
- PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Word, PowerPoint, TXT and Markdown
Excel spreadsheets and scanned PDFs are not supported in the browser reader. The desktop app opens spreadsheets and can recognise a scan first.
- Your file stays in this browser
The paper is stored in this browser only. To answer, the relevant text is sent to the model; the text and your questions are not stored on our servers.
Common questions
Is MindMax Read free?
Yes. Uploading and reading are free with no account. Asking questions needs a free account and uses the weekly AI allowance of the Free plan.
How is this different from uploading a PDF to a chatbot?
MindMax Read reads the paper by its structure, checks every quotation against the text before showing it, and lets you click any quote to jump to that page. The answer is a way back into the paper, not a replacement for it.
Can I ask about several papers together?
Not in the browser — it reads one document at a time. The MindMax desktop app answers across a whole folder of papers and notes.
Does it keep my paper?
The file stays in your browser. Text is sent to the model only to answer a question, and is not stored on our servers.
Upload the paper you have been putting off.
Reading is free with no account; asking needs a free account.
