Exporting to Word, PDF or images
Everything in MindMax is Markdown underneath. Export turns a document into what other people open — a Word file, a PDF, or image cards — laid out the way you saw it on screen. Exporting runs on your computer and spends no credits.
Exporting a document
Open the document, then File → Export As:
| Choose | For | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Word Document… | Whoever edits it next | Paper (A4 or Letter), margins, title in the header and page number in the footer, an automatic table of contents from headings 1–3 |
| PDF… | Whoever only reads it | A fixed layout nobody can reflow — for submitting or archiving |
| Images… | A social feed | Several cards split at paragraph boundaries, or one long image; card size; a footer with the title and card number |
What comes across
- Headings, lists, tables and code with its highlighting.
- Diagrams written as text arrive as pictures of themselves.
- Equations become Word's own equation format — editable and selectable, not images. In the PDF they are typeset as text.
- Citations become numbered superscripts linked to a list of sources, each with the quoted passage.
- Images referenced from your folder are embedded, so the file has no broken links to your disk.
Bringing in an answer from ChatGPT or Claude
- Use the copy button under the answer in the other assistant. It hands over Markdown.
- Paste it into any note. Equations written between
\(\)and\[\]are converted on the way in, so they show as equations. - Fix what needs fixing — by hand, or by asking the AI here, with every change marked.
- File → Export As → Word Document…
Only the text comes across: images the other assistant generated are not in the copy, and the sources it searched arrive as ordinary links rather than checkable quotes.
Turning other things into documents first
- An answer in the assistant: Save as note under it. It goes into
artifacts/notes/unless you choose another folder. - A canvas branch: ⋯ → Convert to note (with branch).
- Drafts and translations are written into the folder as documents to begin with.
Things to know
- Export is one direction. Edits made in the
.docxdo not come back. The Markdown in your folder is the original. - Only what you accepted goes out. AI changes still waiting for review are not in the export, and the Word file carries no tracked-change marks. Accept or reject them first.
- It is not a typesetting system. Pagination and fine layout are what Word or the print engine decides.
- Wide tables are still wide. Whether many columns fit is a question of paper size.
