Mind maps from Claude and ChatGPT

Ask Claude or ChatGPT to break something down, such as a decision, a brainstorm or a plan, and the MindMax Think connector shows the structure as a mind map in the chat, with a button that opens it at mindmax.me/think. There it is an interactive canvas: every card can be expanded further, explained in depth or questioned, the same way as thinking on the canvas in the app.

The connector runs in the browser version of MindMax Think. You don't need the desktop app or a MindMax account to connect it.

Connect it

Claude

Open Settings → Connectors, find MindMax Think in the directory and select Connect.

If it isn't listed for you yet, add it yourself: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, with the URL https://api.mindmax.me/mcp/think/claude-ai. Leave the OAuth fields empty.

ChatGPT

Find MindMax Think in the apps directory and connect it.

If it isn't listed for you yet, and your plan allows developer mode, turn on developer mode in ChatGPT's settings and create an app with the URL https://api.mindmax.me/mcp/think/chatgpt and authentication set to No authentication.

Other assistants

Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers can use https://api.mindmax.me/mcp/think with no authentication. Local agents such as Claude Code or Cursor can run the @mindmax/think-mcp package instead.

Use it

Ask for a breakdown and mention a mind map:

  • "Should I do a PhD or go into industry? Lay out the pros and cons as a mind map."
  • "Brainstorm ways a bakery could get more weekday customers, as a mind map."
  • "Make a 3-month study plan for statistics as a mind map."

The assistant answers as usual and adds a card with a preview of the map. Select Keep exploring in MindMax Think to open it. The map is created in your browser, and from there you carry on as on any canvas: expand a branch, ask for a deeper explanation of a card, or question it.

In Claude you can also start from the connector's prompts in the + menu: Think it through → MindMax Think maps a question you give it, and Map this conversation in MindMax Think lays out what the conversation so far has covered.

What the connector can do

ToolWhat it does
open_in_mindmax_thinkTakes a Markdown outline (a central question, branches, points) and returns a link and a map preview

It is read-only. It doesn't read or change anything in an account, and it sees nothing of your conversation beyond the outline the assistant writes for the map.

Privacy

The connector stores nothing. The outline travels inside the link itself, in the part after # that browsers never send to a server, and the map is saved in your browser when you open it. Running AI on the map afterwards works like any other AI request on mindmax.me. The details are in the privacy policy.

Limits and troubleshooting

  • A map holds up to 60 cards and 24 points per card. If the outline is longer, the assistant gets a message asking it to shorten the points or split the map in two.
  • The link doesn't open a map. The link carries the whole outline, so it is long. If the assistant shortened or rewrote it, use the button on the card, or ask for the link exactly as returned.
  • The assistant didn't make a map. Say "as a mind map" in your request. Single facts, translations and code are not mapped.
