From Claude to a .docx in five steps

Short answers take a minute. A long report takes as long as your read-through, which is the point.

  1. Copy from Claude

Use the copy button under the answer. When Claude has put a longer piece in a document panel beside the chat, copy it from that panel instead — that is the whole piece, in Markdown.

  2. Open the web editor

Go to mindmax.me/write. It opens on a blank document, with nothing to install and no account to make.

  3. Paste

Headings, lists, tables and code show as a document straight away, and equations — in dollar signs or in \( \) brackets — show as typeset maths.

  4. Read it through and edit

This is where a long draft gets its last pass: cut a section, retitle another, fix a figure. Everything saves in your browser as you go.

  5. Export Word

Click Export Word at the top right for a .docx with real headings, tables and editable equations. Export PDF is right beside it.

Built for the long ones

People reach for Claude when the piece is long: a report, a proposal, a chapter. Long pieces are exactly where pasting into Word costs the most, because every heading, list and table has to be fixed by hand.

  • The whole document arrives with its structure: heading levels become Word headings, so Word’s navigation pane and table of contents work on the exported file.
  • You read it as it will print before anyone else does, and fix it in place rather than in Word afterwards.
  • Each document you paste is kept in a list on the left, so a set of drafts from one conversation stays together in your browser.

What comes through

Structure

Heading levels, numbered and bulleted lists, quotes and emphasis become their Word equivalents.

Tables

Real Word tables with cells you can edit, not rows of vertical bars.

Equations

Maths becomes native Word equations, editable in Word’s equation editor.

Code

Code blocks keep their monospace layout and highlighting.

Diagrams

A Mermaid diagram in the answer is drawn and placed in the file as a picture.

Links

Links stay clickable in the .docx.

Where it gets hard

  • The document lives in this browser

Nothing is uploaded to edit or export. Clearing this site’s data, or switching browsers, means the document is not there — export what you want to keep.

  • Interactive pieces do not export

When Claude builds something interactive — a small app, a web page, a chart you can hover — what comes across is its source code, not the working thing. Text, tables, equations and Mermaid diagrams are what this is for.

  • Export goes one way

Edits made later in the .docx do not come back to the editor. Finish here, then export.

  • Page layout is Word’s

Page breaks and how very wide tables fit are decided by Word and the paper size. Documents with strict layout rules will want a last pass in Word.

Common questions

How do I get a Claude answer into Word without losing the formatting?

Copy it with Claude’s copy button, paste it into the MindMax web editor at mindmax.me/write, and click Export Word. The copy button gives Markdown; the editor renders it as a document and the export turns it into real Word headings, lists, tables and equations.

Does it work for a document Claude wrote in a side panel?

Yes. Copy it from that panel’s own copy button and paste it the same way — it is Markdown too, usually longer, and keeps all its headings.

Do I need an account?

Not to paste, edit or export. Those are free, with no watermark. An account is only needed for the optional AI rewriting and for sending a review link.

Is the text sent to MindMax?

No, not for editing or exporting. The document is stored in your browser and the Word file is built there. Only AI rewriting and review links, which you have to sign in for, send text to MindMax.

Can I get comments on the draft before I send the Word file?

Yes, with a free account: Request review creates a link, the people you send it to comment in their browser without signing up, and the comments come back on the passages they are about.

Paste the draft. Hand over a Word file.
